Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock Kick Off Practical Magic 2 Production, Reuniting as the Owens Sisters

The witches are back! Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock share a heartfelt behind-the-scenes video from the set of Practical Magic 2, marking the start of production.

The witches are officially back! Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have reunited to bring the Owens sisters to life once again in the Practical Magic sequel. To mark the start of production, Kidman shared a heartfelt video on Instagram, giving fans a sneak peek behind the scenes as they returned to the magical world of witches. In the post, Kidman excitedly announced, “The witches are back. Owens sisters’ first day on set! #PracticalMagic,” with Bullock adding, “Turns out, we have a lot of work to do.”

Returning to the World of Practical Magic:
Kidman and Bullock are reprising their iconic roles as Sally and Gillian Owens, two witches cursed with a tragic family fate—every man they fall in love with dies. The duo first starred together in the 1998 cult classic Practical Magic, directed by Griffin Dunne. This time, the sequel, titled Practical Magic 2, is directed by Susanne Bier, a director both Bullock and Kidman are familiar with. Bullock worked with Bier on Bird Box, while Kidman starred in The Perfect Couple with the director. Kidman described their collaboration as “the perfect triangle,” highlighting the strong relationship between the three.

New Cast Members and Returning Favorites:
In addition to Kidman and Bullock, the sequel will see the return of Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, who will reprise their roles as the Owens aunts, the sisters who raise Sally and Gillian after the death of their parents. New cast members include Joey King, Lee Pace, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod, adding fresh energy to the beloved film.

However, not all of the original cast will be returning. Evan Rachel Wood, who played the daughter of Bullock’s character in the first film, revealed that she was not invited to reprise her role. “I offered my services, even if it was one scene or one line. I was told they are recasting,” Wood shared on Instagram. “I am sorry to disappoint the fans. It was not in my control or my choice. I would have happily rejoined my sisters.”

Creative Team and Production Details:
The sequel’s script is co-written by Akiva Goldman, who also co-wrote the original Practical Magic, and Georgia Pritchett. In addition to acting in the film, both Bullock and Kidman are serving as producers, along with Denise Di Novi, who worked on the first film as well.

Release Date:
Practical Magic 2 is set to hit theaters on September 18, 2026, bringing back the magic, humor, and heart that made the original a fan favorite.

With the return of beloved characters, a strong creative team, and exciting new talent joining the cast, Practical Magic 2 promises to be a magical experience for fans old and new. As production continues, fans eagerly await the next chapter in the Owens sisters’ enchanting journey.
