Nimrat Kaur on Playing Indrani in 'Kull': "A Lot of Internal Dialogue Before Taking This On"
April 30, 2025: Get ready for a gripping tale of power, loyalty, and betrayal as Kull, a bold new royal drama, premieres on JioHotstar on May 2, 2025. Set within the regal corridors of Bikaner’s majestic palace, the series features Nimrat Kaur in a transformative role as Rani Indrani Raisinggh, a character defined by quiet strength and complex emotional layers.
The official trailer, which has already sparked excitement among viewers, reveals a high-stakes battle for the throne following a royal murder, with secrets, ambition, and shifting alliances at the core of the story. Directed by Sahil Raza and produced by Ekta Kapoor, Kull promises a richly woven saga of family dynamics, set against the visually stunning backdrop of the Bikaner Palace.
In a candid conversation, lead actress Nimrat Kaur shared insights into her portrayal of Indrani, a character she describes as “calm on the surface, with a storm brewing beneath.” Known for portraying strong, nuanced women, Kaur said this role was uniquely challenging and emotionally resonant.
“Indrani is fiercely loyal, but her strength isn’t loud—it’s rooted in silence and control,” Nimrat said. “There’s a subtle transformation in her across the series that demanded a lot of internal dialogue as an actor.”
Joining Nimrat in this royal power struggle are Ridhi Dogra and Amol Parashar, who play central roles in the conflict that erupts after the mysterious murder of the royal patriarch. Parashar’s character, Abhimanyu Raisinggh, finds himself unexpectedly thrust into the fight for the throne, while Indrani attempts to maintain balance and protect her family, even at great personal cost.
Nimrat also spoke about the emotional depth of the character, particularly the burden Indrani carries as the eldest sibling in the family. “I understand the responsibility that comes with being the eldest—protecting, guiding, and sometimes shielding loved ones from harsh truths. That part of Indrani really resonated with me.”
Filming on location at the Bikaner Palace added a layer of authenticity that, according to Nimrat, deeply influenced her performance. “Wearing a chiffon saree and pearls, walking those palace halls… I felt royal. It helped me connect to Indrani’s world in a very real way,” she recalled.
Kull also marks Nimrat’s reunion with producer Ekta Kapoor, following their earlier collaboration on The Test Case, one of India’s pioneering female-led web series. “Ekta trusted me then, and she’s trusted me again with this role. I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of this journey,” said Kaur.
With its lavish setting, strong performances, and emotionally charged storyline, Kull is poised to be one of the most talked-about Indian dramas of the year. The series premieres with its first episode exclusively on JioHotstar on May 2, 2025, with new episodes streaming weekly.
