No ₹5 Crore Demand from Nayanthara for Chandramukhi Footage in Netflix Documentary-Producers
January 7, 2025: Amid ongoing controversies surrounding Nayanthara’s Netflix documentary Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, Sivaji Productions has issued a clarification debunking rumours that they demanded ₹5 crore for the use of footage from the 2005 film Chandramukhi.
The production house confirmed issuing a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to Nayanthara’s Rowdy Pictures, owned by the actress and her husband, director Vignesh Shivan. The NOC explicitly states that Sivaji Productions granted permission for the use of specified timestamps from Chandramukhi in the documentary without any financial condition.

Film industry tracker Manobala Vijayabalan shared the NOC, which reads:
“We confirm that Rowdy Pictures has been granted permission to use, reproduce, distribute, and/or sub-license the aforementioned video footage exclusively for use in the Netflix series titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale. We shall hold Rowdy Pictures harmless from any claims arising out of the authorized use of the footage.”

This clarification comes amid a separate controversy involving Dhanush, who reportedly sent a legal notice to Nayanthara, Vignesh Shivan, and Netflix India, demanding ₹10 crore for the unauthorized use of a three-second clip from the 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan.
The documentary, released on Netflix in November 2023, offers an intimate glimpse into Nayanthara’s life and career, but has been mired in legal disputes since its premiere.
