Not Deepika! This Rising Star Likely to Join Prabhas in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Spirit’

May 23, 2025: In a major shake-up to one of the most anticipated upcoming films, Deepika Padukone has reportedly been removed from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s action drama Spirit, starring Prabhas in the lead role. The decision, as per multiple Telugu media outlets, comes after alleged clashes between the actress and the film’s production team over working conditions, remuneration, and language requirements.

Reports suggest that Deepika’s demands — including an 8-hour workday (with only 6 hours of actual shoot time), a record-breaking ₹20 crore fee, and a share in the film’s profits — were seen as “unprofessional” by insiders. Additionally, she reportedly declined to deliver her dialogues in Telugu, a key expectation for the role.

Amid Deepika’s alleged exit, reports now hint that Rukmini Vasanth, who rose to fame with Sapta Sagaradaache Ello, is in talks to step into the female lead role. While no official confirmation has been made, sources indicate that discussions between Rukmini and the film’s producers are ongoing.

Spirit, currently in its final scripting stage, is being helmed by Arjun Reddy and Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who has reportedly spent over six months crafting what’s described as a high-octane action drama. The film, backed by T-Series and Bhadrakali Pictures, is set to go on floors in October 2025, with a theatrical release planned for 2027.

Prabhas, who plays a cop in the film, is also expected to undergo a major physical transformation, with Vanga advising the star to maintain a lean, athletic look for the role.

While fans had been excited to see Deepika Padukone team up with Vanga for the first time, the potential casting of Rukmini Vasanth introduces a fresh dynamic to the project — one that could surprise and excite audiences in equal measure.
