‘Not His Fault’: Naseeruddin Shah Breaks Silence on Diljit Controversy

June 30, 2025: Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has come out in strong support of singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh, who is currently facing backlash for his collaboration with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir in the upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, and the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Diljit’s professional association with a Pakistani artist has sparked outrage from film unions and social media users.

However, Naseeruddin Shah dismissed the outrage as politically motivated. In a bold post on Facebook, Shah said:
“I STAND FIRMLY WITH DILJIT. The dirty tricks deptt of Jumla Party has been awaiting a chance to attack him. They think they’ve got it at last. He was not responsible for the casting of the film, the director was.”

Shah went on to defend cultural exchanges and personal bonds between people of both nations.
“What these goons want is to put an end to personal interaction between the people of India and Pakistan,” he wrote, adding, “I have close relatives and dear friends there and no one can stop me from sending them love.”

In a sharp clapback to those questioning his loyalty, he said, “My response to those who will say, ‘Go to Pakistan,’ is: ‘GO TO KAILASA’.”

Meanwhile, Diljit has been officially boycotted by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which accused him of disrespecting Indian sentiments. FWICE also objected to his involvement in Border 2, asking the Ministry of Defence to withdraw permission for filming at the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune. The union stated that an actor “under public and professional boycott” should not be associated with such symbolic locations.

Due to the intense backlash, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have confirmed that the film will not release in India.

Border 2, directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, continues its filming schedule but is now facing fresh hurdles because of this controversy.
