June 7, 2025: The acclaimed actress has joined the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter, a standalone film in development at Lucasfilm, directed by Deadpool & Wolverine filmmaker Shawn Levy. She will star alongside Ryan Gosling in what’s being described as a “new adventure” set five years after The Rise of Skywalker.

While details about Goth’s character remain under wraps, the film is expected to offer a fresh take on the Star Wars universe — one that is not connected to previous trilogies or Disney+ spin-offs. “This is not a prequel, this is not a sequel. It’s a new adventure,” Levy confirmed.

Gosling, who has long been rumored to be eyeing a major sci-fi franchise, praised Levy’s vision for the film, saying, “There is not a more perfect filmmaker for this particular story than Shawn.”

Levy has been developing the project since 2022 with longtime collaborator Jonathan Tropper, who has written the script. The director has promised that Starfighter will focus on tone and character rather than franchise connectivity. “I don’t want to do a Star Wars movie that is redundant to others,” he said. “I really wanted to craft something that felt organic to me.”

The casting comes after reports that Oscar-winner Mikey Madison was previously in talks for a key role but ultimately passed on the project.

Production on Starfighter is expected to begin later this year, with a release date currently set for May 2027.
