With a net worth of $1.5 billion, Ronnie Screwvala surpasses the combined wealth of Bollywood’s three Khans, making him the only Hindi film industry figure on Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2025.

April 3, 2025: Movie mogul and media entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala has made history by becoming the only personality from the Hindi film industry to feature in Forbes’ World’s Billionaires List 2025. His inclusion comes with a staggering net worth of $1.5 billion, placing him above the combined wealth of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan.

According to Forbes, Screwvala is wealthier than the Bollywood triumvirate combined — Shah Rukh Khan (estimated at $770 million), Salman Khan ($390 million), and Aamir Khan ($220 million), totaling $1.38 billion.

The 68-year-old Screwvala, who began his career manufacturing toothbrushes in the 1970s, went on to redefine Indian television and film with the launch of UTV, later renamed UTV Motion Pictures. Under his leadership, the company produced critically acclaimed and commercially successful films such as Swades, Rang De Basanti, Khosla Ka Ghosla, Jodhaa Akbar, Fashion, Delhi Belly, and Barfi.

UTV also became a household name in Indian television with cult-favorite shows like Shanti, Hip Hip Hurray, Shaka Laka Boom Boom, Khichdi, and Shararat. In 2012, he sold UTV to The Walt Disney Company for over $450 million, continuing briefly as Disney India’s Managing Director.

Beyond entertainment, Screwvala has emerged as a major force in education as the co-founder and chairperson of upGrad, a leading edtech firm based in Mumbai. He is also known for his philanthropic work with the Swades Foundation, co-founded with his wife Zarina Screwvala, which is dedicated to rural development and empowerment in India.

Speaking about the influence of his formative years, Screwvala told Times of India, “I was blessed to be inclined towards theatre. It taught me everything — soft skills, collaborativeness, participation, and self-confidence.”

Highlighting India’s changing youth landscape, he added, “Their inquisitiveness and expectations are on another level. If we disappoint them, we’re disappointing ourselves as a society.”

With his presence now cemented on the global billionaires list, Ronnie Screwvala’s journey is a testament to what vision, risk-taking, and purpose-driven work can achieve — even beyond the arc lights of Bollywood.
