Olivia Munn Slams All-Female Space Mission Featuring Katy Perry And Lauren Sanchez

April 5, 2025: Actress Olivia Munn has stirred controversy by speaking out against the upcoming all-female space mission, which includes notable women such as Katy Perry, Lauren Sanchez, and others. Munn, known for her outspoken views, raised concerns about the mission’s purpose and the extensive resources allocated to it.

While guest co-hosting Today With Jenna & Friends, Munn questioned the need for the mission, highlighting the disparity between the money being spent on space exploration and pressing issues here on Earth. “I’m not sure what they’re doing up there,” Munn stated. “There are so many other things that are important in the world right now. It’s a lot of money to go to space, and there are people who can’t even afford basic necessities.”

The mission, organized by Blue Origin — the space technology company owned by Jeff Bezos — will see a group of high-profile women embark on a historic 11-minute flight on April 14. The participants include Sanchez, Perry, Gayle King, former NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, entrepreneur and activist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. While the flight is expected to capture widespread media attention, Munn questioned the mission’s significance, asking, “What’s the point? Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous. Space exploration was meant to further our knowledge and help mankind. What are they going to do up there that will make a difference?”

Munn’s comments have sparked a debate, with some questioning the ethics of spending substantial amounts of money on a space trip when there are so many issues to address on Earth. However, Sanchez and Bowe have defended the mission, emphasizing its role in inspiring future generations of women and showing the importance of representation.

Sanchez, in particular, defended the mission’s purpose, stating, “All of these women are storytellers in their own right.” She explained that by going to space, they would have the opportunity to share their personal experiences and the impact of their journey. Bowe echoed her sentiments, saying, “This representation matters. It’s people seeing themselves and being able to show up authentically in their careers in the future.”

While Munn’s views have sparked controversy, the upcoming mission is seen by some as a monumental step in promoting gender equality in the traditionally male-dominated field of space exploration. The mission’s defenders argue that it will provide a valuable platform for these women to break barriers and inspire others to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.

As the launch date approaches, the debate surrounding the mission’s purpose and its broader impact on society continues to divide opinions.
