‘Operation Sindoor’: This Is How Social Media Reacts to India’s Retaliatory Strike on Terror in Pakistan

May 7, 2025: In a powerful response to the barbarous Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians on April 22, India carried out a series of precision strikes under the codename Operation Sindoor on the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday. India’s military targeted nine sites across Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK), sending a strong message in retaliation for the massacre that shook the nation.

Named after Sindoor, the vermillion powder that symbolizes the marital status of Hindu women, the operation’s name carries a deeper cultural and emotional significance, representing the defense of India’s sovereignty and its people. The strikes were seen as a clear warning to Pakistan and the terror hubs it has long harbored. The name “Sindoor” was a powerful metaphor for avenging the violence that claimed innocent lives, as Indians rallied together to celebrate the bold move by the nation.

In the aftermath, Congress President Rahul Gandhi shared his support, writing: “Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!”

India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his support for the operation. He hailed the Indian army’s decisive action and the message sent to Pakistan. His post read: “भारत माता की जय!” (Victory to Mother India), reflecting a sense of national pride and unity.

Veteran cricketer Suresh Raina also shared a similar photograph of Operation Sindoor’s success, showing solidarity with the Indian armed forces.

Singh further emphasized the symbolic weight of Operation Sindoor: “Operation Sindoor isn’t just a mission, it’s a message. India stands united, our forces unmatched. From LOC to LAC, from mountains to oceans every inch of our Bharat is sacred. Jai Hind to our brave soldiers leading from the front.”

Social media was quickly flooded with expressions of patriotism, and “Jai Hind” trended on X (formerly Twitter). Public figures and citizens alike took to social platforms to celebrate the operation and express their pride in the country’s strength and unity.

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor proudly declared, “So proud of my country today. Jai Hind!”

“Operation Sindoor” swiftly became one of the top trending topics on Google, with many users searching for the meaning behind the name and details about the operation. Queries such as “What is Operation Sindoor?” and “Sindoor meaning” dominated search trends.

One user on X wrote, “Operation Sindoor, a mission to avenge the sindoor wiped from the foreheads of our mothers and sisters in Pahalgam. What a powerful and fitting name for this tribute! Jai Hind.”

Another echoed the sentiment of national unity, writing, “No BJP, no Congress. No Hindu, no Muslim. No North, no South. No Hindi, no Kannada. Stand united as an Indian in support of Indian Army on Operation Sindoor.”

Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar also issued a strong statement shortly after the missile strikes, calling for a global stance of zero tolerance towards terrorism, underscoring the importance of international support in combating cross-border terrorism.

The operation’s impact resonated across all sectors, with sports figures like Varun Chakravarthy, an Indian cricketer currently playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), sharing a post about Operation Sindoor on his Instagram account, joining the nationwide wave of support.

The operation not only avenged the brutal attack but also served as a message of resilience and strength from India’s defense forces, showing that the country stands firm against terror and is willing to take all necessary steps to protect its people.
