February 5, 2025: The Red Lorry Film Festival is returning for its second edition, and this time it’s expanding beyond Mumbai to also include Hyderabad. The festival promises to showcase an exciting selection of globally acclaimed films, including the Oscar-nominated Emilia Perez, the haunting period drama The Girl with the Needle, and the evocative film Queer.
One of the major highlights of this year’s festival is Emilia Perez, a groundbreaking film that made history by earning 13 Oscar nominations, the most ever for a non-English-language film. The film stars a powerhouse cast featuring Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Adriana Paz. Notably, Gascon made history as the first transgender woman nominated for an Oscar for acting. Emilia Perez also won the Jury Prize and a joint Best Actress award at the Cannes Film Festival.
Another highly anticipated film at the festival is The Girl with the Needle, a period drama set in 1919 Copenhagen. The film tells the intense story of Karoline, a young seamstress played by Vic Carmen Sonne, who faces a difficult decision after becoming pregnant by her wealthy lover, who refuses to marry her. With strong reviews, this film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, followed by its North American premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
The festival has been promoting the event through its official Instagram, showcasing the films that will be featured. “For cinephiles who crave the unseen, the unheard, the unforgettable.
