Oscars 2026 Nominations Buzz
Date, frontrunners and India’s presence ahead of Academy Awards shortlist
January 22, 2026: Anticipation around the 98th Academy Awards has intensified as the global film industry awaits the Oscar nominations, set to be announced on January 22, 2026. With the awards season already shaped by the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards, attention has now turned to which films will make the final cut when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences reveals its nominees.
Early shortlists released across 12 categories have offered a glimpse into this year’s competitive race. High-profile films such as One Battle After Another, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, and Sinners have emerged as strong contenders in major technical categories, including Cinematography, Original Score, Sound, and Visual Effects. Timothée Chalamet-starrer Marty Supreme and Michael B Jordan-led Sinners have been among the most talked-about titles, maintaining momentum despite mixed results at earlier award shows.
India has also marked its presence on the global stage, with Homebound advancing to the shortlist in the International Feature Film category, selected from entries submitted by 86 countries. Voting for nominations will conclude by mid-January, with the final nominees announced on January 22, while the Oscars 2026 ceremony is scheduled to take place on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
