Panchayat Season 5 Confirmed? Writer Chandan Kumar Drops Exciting Update
June 26, 2025: Fans of the hit web series Panchayat have a reason to rejoice — Season 5 is officially in the works! The beloved rural comedy-drama, known for its authentic storytelling and heartwarming characters, continues to captivate audiences with its current fourth season, now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
In an exclusive conversation, Panchayat writer Chandan Kumar shared that the script and direction for Season 5 are already complete. He emphasized the challenge of meeting growing audience expectations with each new season. “The more seasons we do, the more expectations rise amongst fans. That is very challenging,” Kumar said.
He added that the team’s focus remains on crafting a cohesive story. “Our attempt is not to do something completely out of the box. The story needs to be connected. There needs to be a prelude to everything that is happening. We don’t do anything random,” he explained. Kumar assured fans that every creative decision is made with respect to the show’s world and its loyal audience: “We don’t take the audience’s love for granted.”
Meanwhile, Panchayat star Neena Gupta, who plays Manju Devi — the Panchayat chief — shared her thoughts on the show’s immense popularity. In an interview, Gupta said, “I could have never thought this would be so successful. The writing was good, which is why we all said yes to it. It was fun. But I never imagined it would be such a grand success.”
Set in the fictional village of Phulera, Panchayat follows the life of Abhishek Tripathi (played by Jitendra Kumar), an urban MBA aspirant who takes up the job of Panchayat Secretary. The show’s success lies in its simplicity, humor, and the depth of its characters.
Season 4, though receiving mixed reviews, has continued to draw attention. Showsha awarded it a 4-star rating, noting that while the election plotline took center stage, other narrative layers were missed. “The biggest letdown this season is the sluggish pacing and narrow focus… We’re left waiting until the second half of the final episode just to find out the election results,” the review stated.
The ensemble cast also includes Raghuvir Yadav, Faisal Malik, Chandan Roy, Sanvikaa, Durgesh Kumar, Sunita Rajwar, Ashok Pathak, and Pankaj Jha, alongside Jitendra Kumar and Neena Gupta.
As Panchayat continues to evolve, fans can look forward to another season that promises to stay true to its roots while navigating new challenges in rural India.
