Paresh Rawal Walks Out of Hera Pheri 3, Returns Fee with Interest: Here’s Why

May 24, 2025: Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has officially stepped away from the much-anticipated Hera Pheri 3, and new details have emerged about the financial and legal aftermath of his decision. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, Rawal returned the ₹11 lakh signing amount he received for the film, along with 15% annual interest, and even added a little extra in a gesture of goodwill.

The report reveals that Paresh Rawal’s total fee for reprising his iconic role of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte was locked at ₹15 crore. However, the contract contained a clause stating that the bulk of his payment—₹14.89 crore—would only be made a month after the film’s release, which is currently projected for late 2026 or 2027.

This delayed payment clause reportedly caused discomfort for the actor. With the principal shoot only scheduled to begin next year, Rawal was facing a waiting period of nearly two years for his full fee—something he was unwilling to accept.

A source told, “Paresh Rawal has returned the signing amount of ₹11 lakhs with 15% p.a. interest and also a little more money for stepping away from the series.”

Rawal’s abrupt exit has triggered a legal row. Akshay Kumar, who stars in and co-produces the film, has taken legal action against the actor. His legal representative, Pooja Tidke of Parinam Law Associate, confirmed to PTI that a formal legal notice has been sent to Rawal.

“There will be severe legal consequences. It’s hurt the franchise. There were already expenses incurred towards the cast, crew, trailer shoot, and logistics,” she stated.

Paresh Rawal’s departure has stunned fans who were eagerly awaiting the third installment of the beloved franchise, which began with Hera Pheri (2000) and Phir Hera Pheri (2006). Both films, particularly Rawal’s character Baburao, have achieved cult status in Indian cinema.

The third part of the franchise is being helmed by Priyadarshan, who directed the original. Hera Pheri 3 is still in pre-production, with Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty expected to return.
