The sequel to the all-time blockbuster was unexpectedly announced by a developer on stage, sending fans into a frenzy over the next chapter of the YRF Spy Universe.
December 10, 2025: The return of superstar Shah Rukh Khan as the suave super-spy Pathaan is now officially sealed. The sequel to the 2023 all-time grosser, Pathaan 2, was unexpectedly confirmed at a public event in Dubai, immediately reigniting the frenzy around Yash Raj Films’ Spy Universe.
The reveal came during the launch of a premium commercial tower named after Shah Rukh Khan by a local developer. The developer, while addressing the actor and the crowd on stage, confirmed the film’s existence.
“Koi blockbuster movie hoti hai toh uska ek sequel hota hai, am I right? Like ‘Pathaan’. ‘Pathaan 2’ aa rahi hai. Toh koi movie aap dekho, toh uska sequel hoga (When a blockbuster movie happens, it gets a sequel, am I right? Like ‘Pathaan.’ ‘Pathaan 2’ is coming. So, any big movie will have a sequel),” the developer stated.
Shah Rukh Khan, who was present on stage, did not contest the statement, effectively confirming the highly anticipated sequel.
Setting the Stage for the Spy Universe
The announcement arrives amid high audience expectations for the spy genre, particularly with Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar recently achieving a massive box office opening. Pathaan 2 is confirmed to be the next critical installment in the YRF Spy Universe lineup.
Industry reports suggest that the sequel will serve a crucial function in the larger franchise:
- Prequel to the Clash: The film is reportedly designed to lay the groundwork for a larger conflict and set up the epic crossover, Tiger vs Pathaan.
- Production Timeline: Filming is expected to begin next year, likely after the release of the female-led spy film, Alia Bhatt’s Alpha (scheduled for April 17, 2026). The sequel itself is expected to hit theatres in 2027.
- Global Shoot: Reports indicate that the production will be mounted on an even bigger scale, with plans to shoot extensively in Chile. This follows recent discussions between Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font and Indian filmmakers about cinematic collaborations.
SRK Reflects on Milestones
At the same event, Shah Rukh Khan reflected on his recent career achievements, acknowledging the profound significance of being honoured globally and locally.
“I have a bronze DDLJ statue in London, I’ve won a National Award, and now there’s a building in Dubai named after me. I’ve become someone my parents can look down on proudly from heaven. It’s a life-changing moment for me,” the superstar shared.
