Pierce Brosnan Open to Returning as James Bond — Even as a ‘72-Year-Old 007’

Former Bond star jokes about reprising the role under Denis Villeneuve, while cheering for the next generation of the iconic spy

Los Angeles [US], August 20: Pierce Brosnan, the suave actor who embodied James Bond in four blockbuster films between 1995 and 2002, has once again sparked excitement among fans. The Irish star admitted that he would gladly return to the role of 007—this time embracing age with humor and charm.

In a candid interview, Brosnan joked about playing an older version of the iconic spy, even if it meant wearing bald caps and prosthetics. “I don’t think anyone wants to see a craggy, 72-year-old Bond,” he laughed. “But if Denis Villeneuve had something up his sleeve, I’d look at it in a heartbeat. Why not? It’s great entertainment. It could be lots of laughs.”

Brosnan, who captivated audiences as Bond in GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, shared that both he and his wife are eagerly waiting to see who takes up the mantle after Daniel Craig stepped down in 2021.

“I’ve been listening to the drumbeat of expectation about who’s going to be the next James Bond,” he said. “There are so many great candidates out there. I’m sure they’re going to make it a spectacle of delight.”

Interestingly, Brosnan’s co-star in his upcoming Netflix project The Thursday Murder Club, Helen Mirren, also weighed in on the Bond debate. She firmly stated, “James Bond has to be James Bond. Otherwise, it becomes something else.”

Earlier this year, Brosnan emphasized that the next 007 should remain British—a sentiment that aligns with many traditional fans of the franchise. Meanwhile, speculation continues to swirl around names like Tom Holland, Jacob Elordi, and Harris Dickinson as potential successors.

For now, Brosnan is busy gearing up for The Thursday Murder Club, based on Richard Osman’s bestselling novels about a group of witty pensioners who solve crimes. Yet, the thought of him slipping back into Bond’s tuxedo, even in his seventies, is one that fans won’t easily shake off.

After all, as Brosnan himself proves, Bond never really retires—he just ages like fine martini.
