Prakash Raj Slams Religion-Linked Post After RCB’s WPL Win

Actor calls social media post on Smriti Mandhana’s victory “disgusting”

February 8, 2026: After Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched their second Women’s Premier League (WPL) title by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) by six wickets, social media was abuzz with celebrations for the team and skipper Smriti Mandhana. However, a controversial post linking the victory to religion sparked outrage. Actor and filmmaker Prakash Raj strongly criticised the post, calling it “disgusting” and reflective of a “rotten mindset”.

The post, shared on X (formerly Twitter), claimed that Mandhana’s success was due to the blessings of Tirupati Balaji while contrasting it with Jesus in reference to DC captain Jemimah Rodrigues. Reacting sharply, Prakash Raj wrote, “Only a disgusting… rotten mind can think like this… Is this where we have come to?” His response drew widespread attention and reignited debate over the unnecessary mixing of religion with sports achievements.

On the field, RCB delivered a dominant performance in the WPL 2026 final at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium. Chasing a target of 203, RCB sealed the win in 19.4 overs, with Smriti Mandhana scoring a match-winning 87 off 41 balls and earning the Player of the Match award. Celebrating the triumph, Mandhana shared pictures with the trophy on Instagram, while celebrities including Anushka Sharma praised the team. Despite the loss, DC skipper Jemimah Rodrigues said she was immensely proud of her side’s journey.
