Prateik Babbar Reveals The Reason Why HE Didn’t Invite His Dad Raj Babbar To His Wedding

May 12, 2025: Prateik Babbar, who recently tied the knot with Priya Banerjee in a low-key wedding ceremony on February 14, 2025, has addressed the controversy surrounding the absence of his father, Raj Babbar, and his family at the celebration. The intimate ceremony, held at Prateik’s late mother Smita Patil’s house in Mumbai, was attended by close friends and family, but Raj Babbar, Arya Babbar, and Juhi Babbar were notably absent, sparking speculation and discussions on social media.

In a candid interview, Prateik revealed the real reason behind the decision not to invite his father and his family. The actor explained that the tension between his mother, Smita Patil, and his father’s wife, Nadira, which dates back over 30 years, played a significant role in his choice. He shared:

“My father’s wife (Nadira) and my mother (Smita Patil) had some complications in the past, lots of things have been said in the press and stuff like that, if you dig out 38-40 years ago. I was open to doing something with my father and his family for another function.”

Prateik continued, expressing that it felt unethical to have his father and his family at his mother’s house due to the history between the two families:

“I just thought it was unethical to have him and his family at that house after everything that had gone on between them. Absolutely, it wasn’t right. The right thing to do was what we did.”

The actor also emphasized that his decision wasn’t a personal rejection but rather a way of respecting his late mother’s wishes:

“It wasn’t about rejecting anyone. It was about respecting my mother and her wishes… I’m sorry my father and his wife could not be there, could not be in the house my mother bought for me to grow up and live a life as a single mother.”

Prateik further explained that the house was a place his mother had envisioned raising him alone and had great emotional significance for him.

“She wanted to live in that house with me as a single mother. Bring me up. I’m sorry.”

Despite the emotional complexity of the situation, Prateik stated that the decision was the best one for both him and his wife, Priya. He acknowledged that people often make impulsive judgments, but he stood by the choice, which was made with careful thought and respect for his mother’s legacy:

“That was the best decision my wife and I made. And it could have been a very, very subtle scenario, and everything could have been subtle. But people are impulsive, people make impulsive choices and say things out of impulse, and it was just distasteful, and I think that bitter taste has remained.”

The wedding, which took place in the backdrop of Mumbai at the house of his late mother Smita Patil, was a significant moment for Prateik, and his decision not to invite his father and his family was deeply personal, rooted in the complicated history between the two families.
