Preity Zinta Apologises for Being ‘Curt’ During Dharamshala Evacuation

May 11, 2025: Bollywood actress and Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta took to Instagram with a heartfelt message after a tense few days in Dharamshala, where an IPL match was abruptly suspended amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

The IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC), held at the picturesque Dharamshala stadium on May 6, was called off mid-match following air raid alerts in the nearby cities of Jammu and Pathankot. Only 10.1 overs of play had taken place before the game was halted due to security concerns.

“Finally back home after a crazy last few days,” Zinta wrote in a detailed post. She thanked Indian Railways and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw for facilitating the safe and swift departure of players, officials, and families from Dharamshala. “A heartfelt thank you to Indian Railways & our Railway minister Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw for helping both IPL teams and all officials & families leave Dharamshala in a safe, swift & comfortable way,” she said.

Zinta also praised the efforts of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the Indian Premier League (IPL) authorities, and the Punjab Kings’ operations team. “A big thank you to Mr Jay Shah, Mr Arun Dhumal, BCCI & our CEO Mr Satish Menon & the Operations team of Punjab Kings for helping coordinate the evacuation of our stadium in Dharamshala safely & in an orderly manner.”

Importantly, she acknowledged the cooperation of the fans inside the stadium during the evacuation. “Thank you… for not panicking & for [avoiding] any stampedes. You guys are absolute rock stars,” she wrote. She also apologised for her curt responses to fans who asked for photos during the crisis. “The need of the hour was the safety of everyone… It was my duty & responsibility to make sure everyone stayed safe.”

Her post ended with her trademark sign-off, “Ting.”

A video of Zinta at the stadium went viral last week, showing her calmly instructing fans to vacate the premises in an orderly manner. Her composed behavior and focus on safety won her praise from fans and the cricketing community.

According to Kangra SP Shalini Agnihotri, both PBKS and DC squads were escorted out of Dharamshala on Friday and taken to Jalandhar railway station under tight security. They boarded a special train to New Delhi from there.

Meanwhile, the BCCI is set to hold a crucial meeting on Sunday, May 11, to discuss the possible resumption of IPL 2025, which is currently on hold due to the ongoing geopolitical situation.
