February 25, 2025: Bollywood actress Preity Zinta took to social media to strongly refute allegations made by the Kerala wing of the Congress party regarding her involvement in loan write-offs and giving her social media accounts to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She expressed her shock and disappointment at a political party spreading what she called “fake news” and clarified that her loan had been fully repaid more than a decade ago.
The controversy arose after Congress Kerala posted an allegation on X (formerly Twitter), claiming that the actress had “given her social media accounts to BJP and got 18 Cr written off.” Preity, who handles her own social media accounts, wasted no time in denying the claim. In her response, she wrote, “No I operate my social media accounts myself, and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images.”
She further explained that the loan in question was taken and “FULLY PAID BACK” over ten years ago, hoping to clear up any misunderstandings for the future.
In a follow-up post, Preity Zinta also called out several media outlets for failing to verify such information before publishing. “So much misinformation going around, but thank god for social media and thank god for X!” she expressed.
The actress didn’t stop there and continued her criticism by urging media houses to be more responsible in their reporting. “I think it’s time we start holding them responsible right here so there is some accountability in the future,” she wrote. She also added, “Next time please call me and find out if the story is true or not before mentioning my name.”
In another post, Preity spoke about the increasing cynicism on social media and how public figures are often criticized or labeled unfairly. She remarked, “If you appreciate your PM, you are a bhakt… if you are a proud Hindu or Indian, then you’re an ‘Andh Bhakt’!” and added, “Let’s keep it real folks and take people for who they are and not who we think they should be!”
On the work front, Preity Zinta is gearing up for her Bollywood comeback in the period drama Lahore 1947, directed by Rajkumar Santoshi. The film also stars Shabana Azmi, Ali Fazal, Sunny Deol, and his son Karan Deol, marking a major return for the actress to the silver screen after her last film Bhaiaji Superhit in 2018.
