Prime Video Unveils First Look of Bhumi Pednekar’s ‘Daldal’ at IFFI 2025

Prime Video launched the first look and exclusive teaser of its upcoming psychological crime thriller series, ‘Daldal’, at a special showcase during the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

The show, headlined by actress Bhumi Pednekar, is a dark and complex murder mystery based on Vish Dhamija’s bestselling novel, Bhendi Bazaar.

The Story: DCP Rita Ferreira

The series centers on Mumbai’s newly appointed DCP Rita Ferreira (played by Bhumi Pednekar). Her professional life is dominated by the pursuit of a brutal serial killer, a chase that drags her into the city’s moral “grey zones” and forces her to confront deeply buried personal memories and demons.

  • Key Roles: The series, produced by Abundantia Entertainment, is created by Suresh Triveni and directed by Amrit Raj Gupta. It also features actors Aditya Rawal and Samara Tijori in key roles.

Bhumi Pednekar on Her Challenging Role

During the IFFI session titled “Beyond the Stereotype: Redefining Women and Power in Modern Storytelling,” Pednekar discussed the emotional intensity of playing DCP Rita Ferreira, calling it one of the most challenging roles of her career.

  • Quiet Power: She characterized Rita’s power as being rooted in restraint and quiet resilience, noting, “She doesn’t say much, but she does a lot. If actions speak louder than words, I don’t think there’s a character who embodies that more than Rita Ferreira.”
  • Physical Cues: Pednekar highlighted the difficulty of communicating through subtle physicality rather than dialogue: “For the first time, I didn’t have dialogues or even expressive eyes to rely on. I had to communicate through the smallest physical cues: how her neck tightens with guilt or how her body responds to anger.”

Prime Video’s Intentional Storytelling

Nikhil Madhok, Director & Head of Originals at Prime Video India, affirmed the platform’s commitment to complex, female-driven narratives:

“At Prime Video, our approach to female-driven storytelling is completely intentional. For decades, mainstream cinema centred the male hero, while television kept women confined to domestic narratives. Streaming allowed us to break that pattern.”
