Prince William Breaks Silence On Prince Harry Amid Royal Feud
Prince William uses his estranged brother’s name to underscore his promise to modernize the monarchy and protect Prince George from the past.
October 3, 2025: Amid years of public tension and a dramatic royal rift, Prince William has made a rare, explicit reference to his estranged younger brother, Prince Harry. The highly-anticipated moment occurred during an appearance on Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series, The Reluctant Traveler.
While discussing his hopes for his eldest son, 12-year-old Prince George, and his eventual succession to the throne, William acknowledged the difficult pressures he and the Duke of Sussex faced growing up.
“Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better,” William told Levy. He then added a critical caveat: “That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up with and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.”
The comment is seen as a notable olive branch, or at least a public validation of the shared struggles that Harry has spoken about extensively, most recently in his memoir Spare. The mention reinforces the narrative that William is determined to modernize the monarchy and shield his children from the pressures and intense media scrutiny that plagued his own youth.
William doubled down on his commitment to evolution within the institution. “Change for good,” he stressed. “And I embrace that and I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me, the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen.”
The statement comes at a sensitive time for the Royal Family. Since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back as senior royals in 2020 and relocated to the United States, the brothers have been publicly distant. Despite Harry’s recent brief visit to the UK, he did not meet with William, with Kensington Palace citing a “fully booked” schedule.
Royal experts note that William’s comments, while conciliatory in acknowledging their shared experience, are still firmly focused on his future as king and his agenda for the institution. Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich suggested that William’s reluctance to reconcile privately with Harry is rooted in a “persistent lack of trust” following Harry’s public airing of grievances through interviews and his book.
However, the public acknowledgment of their shared past remains a subtle, but significant, move for a future monarch who is increasingly charting a course toward a more relatable and responsive royal family.
