Priya Sachdev Hits Back At Mother-In-Law, Claims She Gets Over ₹21 Lakh Every Month
Sunjay Kapur’s widow hits back at Rani Kapur’s allegations in court, asserting that her mother-in-law continues to draw a substantial monthly income from the late industrialist’s company.
December 4, 2025: The high-stakes inheritance battle over the estate of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur escalated dramatically in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, as his widow, Priya Sachdev Kapur, forcefully rebutted claims made by her mother-in-law, Rani Kapur.
Priya’s legal counsel, Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, strongly dismissed Rani Kapur’s accusation that Priya had concealed the true extent of Sunjay’s wealth and potentially moved funds abroad.
Hitting back at the allegations, Nayar provided a detailed defense of Sunjay’s finances and then launched a counter-claim against Rani Kapur herself, suggesting that the late businessman’s mother continues to benefit substantially from the company.
He claimed that Rani Kapur currently draws over ₹21 lakh per month from the Sona Comstar holding firm, AIPL, and that “her personal expenses continue to be paid for exactly as they were when Sunjay was alive.” Nayar starkly termed the mother-in-law’s allegations as “baseless and reckless.”
Rani Kapur’s legal team had earlier questioned the low declared value of Sunjay’s assets, alleging he received a salary of ₹60 crore in the year prior to his death. Nayar clarified the figure, explaining that the amount included a one-time bonus and detailed how the money was utilized:
“Mr Kapur was a director [in AIPL] for the year 2023-24 when he received a salary of ₹10 crore for that financial year. For that financial year, he also received a one-time bonus of ₹50 crore. Out of that, a TDS of ₹23.5 crore was deducted and he got ₹36.5 crore in hand. Out of that ₹28.5 crore was spent on the purchase of immovable assets, properties in London.”
Nayar asserted that a “detailed list of assets” had been filed with the court and firmly denied the concealment charges: “No money has been moved abroad,” he stated.
The legal battle stems from a suit filed by Sunjay Kapur’s children from his previous marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor—Samaira and Kiaan—who have challenged the authenticity of the will presented by Priya. The contested will reportedly leaves the bulk of Sunjay’s personal estate to Priya, excluding his children from his first marriage and his mother, Rani Kapur.
Rani Kapur has joined her grandchildren’s suit, alleging that the will is “highly improbable” given Sunjay’s close ties with his entire family, while Karisma’s children accuse Priya of fabricating the document to usurp their rightful inheritance.
The Delhi High Court continues to hear arguments on the matter, which revolves around the validity of the will and the transparency of Sunjay Kapur’s multi-crore estate.
