Priyanka Chopra’s ‘Citadel Season 2’ Pushed To 2026 Due To Production Delays

March 29, 2025: Priyanka Chopra’s highly anticipated Citadel Season 2, which was originally slated for release in 2025, has now been delayed until spring 2026 due to ongoing challenges. The spy series, produced by Joe and Anthony Russo’s AGBO, has encountered several setbacks, including dissatisfaction from Amazon MGM with the current version of the show’s second season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Amazon MGM has pushed back the release, citing that the second season requires more adjustments before it can be finalized. As a result, all Citadel spinoff series are also on hold until the second season’s release is confirmed. While the company has not provided an official return date, sources suggest that further development of spinoffs, including Citadel: Diana from Italy and Citadel: Honey Bunny from India, has been paused due to the current situation.

The show, initially designed as a global franchise with multiple international spinoffs, had already faced significant issues. The first season of Citadel went through expensive reshoots and had budget overruns, leading to a massive cost of $235 million. Despite receiving mixed reviews, the series was renewed for a second season. However, even after shooting for Season 2 was completed in November 2023, Amazon MGM still felt the need to make additional changes to the show’s final version to ensure quality.

Adding to the drama, Jennifer Salke, the former head of Amazon MGM who initially championed the Citadel project, was recently removed from her position, further complicating matters for the series.

The first season of the show, which starred Priyanka Chopra alongside Richard Madden, garnered attention for its high-profile cast and spy thriller plot. The series, spanning six episodes, also featured Stanley Tucci, Lesley Manville, Ashleigh Cummings, Roland Moller, and Rahul Kohli in important roles.

The Indian spinoff, Citadel: Honey Bunny, featuring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, premiered in November 2024, and has had success in its respective region. However, the larger plans for the Citadel franchise have now been delayed as the team focuses on getting Season 2 ready for release.
