Pro-Khalistan Extremists Disrupt Screening of Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency in London

Protesters storm Harrow cinema, chanting slogans; Insight UK condemns the incident

London [UK], January 20: A group of pro-Khalistan extremists disrupted the screening of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency at a cinema in Harrow, London. The British Hindu and Indian social movement, Insight UK, highlighted the incident in a post on X, condemning the disruption.

A video shared by Insight UK captured the protesters shouting pro-Khalistan slogans as they attempted to halt the screening of the historical political drama.

“Pro-Khalistan extremists storm Harrow cinema and attempt to stop the screening of Emergency,” the group stated.

Recurring Protests Linked to Khalistan Movement

This is not the first instance of pro-Khalistan agitation in the UK. In 2023, the Indian High Commission in London faced a violent attack from Khalistani supporters. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) alleged that these attacks were retaliatory actions following the Punjab police’s crackdown on Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De, an organization advocating for a separate Khalistan state.

The Khalistan movement seeks the secession of Punjab from India, and its supporters have been involved in several overseas incidents aimed at drawing attention to their cause.

About Emergency

Released on January 17, 2025, Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency delves into the politically charged 21-month period from 1975 to 1977, during which then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi declared a state of emergency in India.

Directed by Kangana herself, the film portrays the political and societal upheaval of the era, with the actress taking on the role of Indira Gandhi. The ensemble cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, and the late Satish Kaushik.

The film has sparked debates and discussions, as it revisits one of India’s most controversial chapters, making it a target for political protests even outside India.
