February 7, 2025: Shahid Kapoor’s Deva Struggles at the Box Office, Collects ₹28.04 Crore in Seven Days

After a year-long hiatus from the big screen, Shahid Kapoor returned with Deva, an action-packed thriller directed by Rosshan Andrews. However, the film’s performance at the box office has been underwhelming, with collections declining sharply after its opening weekend.

On its seventh day, Deva earned ₹1.39 crore (as of 9:30 PM), bringing its total domestic net collection to ₹28.04 crore for all languages, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. While the film opened with ₹5.5 crore on Day 1 and collected ₹19.49 crore over the weekend, its daily earnings have since dipped, recording just ₹2.35 crore on Day 6.

About the Film:

Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur under Roy Kapur Films, Deva stars Shahid Kapoor as a fearless police officer, alongside Pooja Hegde as a journalist and Pavail Gulati as ACP Rohan D’Silva. The movie is an adaptation of the 2013 Malayalam hit Mumbai Police, but its climax has been tweaked to offer a fresh twist.

Speaking about his character, Shahid Kapoor compared Deva to his previous roles, saying, “It’s an aggressive character, but Deva is unique. It’s not like Kabir Singh or Tommy Singh. Deva is very much its own story.”

The plot revolves around a brilliant and rebellious cop who uncovers layers of deceit and betrayal while solving a high-profile case. Despite its engaging premise, the movie received mixed reviews, though Shahid’s performance has been widely praised.

Mixed Reception and Challenges:

With only 5.92% Hindi occupancy on February 6, Deva faces an uphill battle at the box office. Its comparison to Kabir Singh and the tweaks to its original Malayalam storyline have garnered polarized opinions from audiences and critics alike.

Outlook:

As Deva continues its run, industry analysts suggest the film will need stronger word-of-mouth to maintain its momentum. Despite the challenges, Shahid’s performance has kept fans intrigued, solidifying his reputation as a versatile actor.
