December 20, 2024: The year 2024 proved to be a stellar one for cinema, with big-ticket releases like Fighter, Stree 2, Singham Again, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. Yet, it was Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna’s Pushpa 2: The Rule that emerged as the crown jewel, topping BookMyShow’s annual #BookMyShowThrowback report.
Released on December 5, Pushpa 2 captivated audiences with its high-octane action and gripping narrative, drawing in 10.8 lakh solo viewers, making it the most-watched movie of 2024. Directed by Sukumar, the sequel to the 2021 hit Pushpa: The Rise saw Allu Arjun reprising his role as the iconic anti-hero, alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil.

Blockbuster Day of the Year
According to BookMyShow’s report, November 1 was crowned the biggest day for movie ticket sales, with 2.3 million tickets sold in just 24 hours.
Adding to the nostalgia factor, 2024 also witnessed a resurgence of classic hits, with re-releases of beloved films like Kal Ho Na Ho, Rockstar, and Laila Majnu drawing large audiences to theaters.

Music Mania and Live Events Boom
On the live entertainment front, 2024 was equally monumental. BookMyShow hosted over 30,687 live events across 319 cities, marking an 18% growth in India’s live entertainment consumption.
Highlights included electrifying performances by Nick Jonas and the Jonas Brothers at Lollapalooza India 2024, a collaboration between Diljit Dosanjh and Ed Sheeran, and shows by Maroon 5.
Coldplay’s Music Of The Spheres World Tour in Ahmedabad was a major draw, attracting fans from over 500 cities. Music tourism saw a notable surge, with 4,77,393 fans traveling outside their cities for events, while Tier 2 cities like Kanpur, Shillong, and Gandhinagar recorded a staggering 682% growth in live events.
Solo and Independent Participation Trends
Over 8,87,166 fans attended live events solo, reflecting the rising trend of independent participation. In terms of streaming, BookMyShow Stream recorded 107,023 hours of content consumed, adding 446 new titles to its library of 2,978 films.
With its blend of blockbuster films, nostalgic re-releases, and live music events, 2024 set a new benchmark for India’s entertainment landscape.
