Pushpa 2: FIR Against Allu Arjun, Theatre Management

December 6, 2024: Hyderabad: A case has been registered against Telugu superstar Allu Arjun and others in connection with a stampede at the premiere of his latest movie, Pushpa 2: The Rule, at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening. The incident claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman and left her nine-year-old son critically injured.

Hyderabad Police charged Allu Arjun, his security team, and the theatre management under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) (causing grievous hurt by dangerous means) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Neither the actor nor the theatre has commented on the incident so far.

Details of the Incident

The stampede occurred after Allu Arjun unexpectedly arrived at the venue with music director Devi Sri Prasad, drawing hundreds of fans who rushed to catch a glimpse of the star. The overwhelming crowd created chaos, with the actor’s security team allegedly pushing people to manage the situation, further worsening the panic.

According to police, the lack of proper entry and exit arrangements for the actor and his team contributed to the commotion. Hyderabad Police Commissioner CV Anand confirmed that neither the theatre management nor the actor’s team informed authorities in advance about his arrival.

“Stringent legal action will be taken against those responsible for the chaotic situation that led to a tragic loss of life and injuries,” Commissioner Anand said.

Victims and Family’s Response

The victim, identified as Revathi, reportedly suffocated in the crush alongside her son, Teja. Police personnel at the scene performed CPR on both and rushed them to Durgabai Deshmukh Hospital. While Teja is in critical condition, Revathi was declared dead on arrival.

Revathi’s family, residents of Dilsukhnagar, have demanded accountability from the theatre management and Allu Arjun. They have also called for financial and moral support from the actor.

Production House’s Statement

The production house, Mythri Movie Makers, expressed their sorrow over the incident. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), they said: “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event and are committed to standing by the affected family during this difficult time.”

Police Investigation

Authorities are investigating the sequence of events, including the role of the theatre management and the actor’s team in failing to ensure crowd control.

The tragic incident underscores the importance of stringent safety measures at high-profile public events to prevent such mishaps in the future.
