The decision, reportedly triggered by escalating India-Pakistan tensions and nationwide security concerns, has led to a legal backlash from PVR Cinemas. According to News9Live, PVR has filed a ₹60 crore lawsuit against Maddock Films, alleging heavy financial losses due to the abrupt cancellation. PVR CEO Kamal Gianchandani confirmed the legal action, with a senior executive noting that proceedings are already underway.

While Maddock Films has not yet responded to the lawsuit, the studio issued a public statement on Thursday explaining its decision to shift the release:
“In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16—only on Prime Video, worldwide. While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND.”
The film is a sci-fi romantic comedy directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films, in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios. Set in Varanasi, Bhool Chuk Maaf tells the story of Ranjan, a government employee caught in a mysterious time loop on his wedding day. Co-starring Seema Pahwa, the film promises a blend of humor, heart, and high-concept storytelling.
Maddock Films is coming off a blockbuster year, with hits like Chhaava, Munjya, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and Stree 2 dominating the box office.
