Twelve years after the original film redefined the slice-of-life genre in Indian cinema, Kangana Ranaut is officially returning as the beloved Rani. According to recent reports, the sequel to the 2014 blockbuster Queen is scheduled to go on floors by the end of April 2026.

The Vikas Bahl directorial, which originally earned Kangana a National Award and achieved massive box-office success, has remained a fan favorite for its portrayal of female independence.

The upcoming sequel reportedly features a “smart, strong, and quirky” Rani, but with a fresh plot twist that triggers a new journey of self-discovery. While the first installment saw Rani navigating the streets of Paris and Amsterdam, Queen 2 will shift its focus closer to home. Sources indicate that the narrative will follow her as she explores various Indian cities, conquering life’s challenges through her unique individuality and newfound courage.

Production is set to kick off in Mumbai, where a large-scale set representing a North Indian city is currently being constructed. Following the initial Mumbai leg, the crew will move across several Indian metro cities. The makers have planned a rigorous start-to-finish schedule of three months to complete the film, ensuring a swift production cycle for the highly anticipated sequel.

This marks a significant return to the silver screen for Kangana, who was last seen in the 2025 film Emergency. While she has been heavily involved in her political career recently, her acting slate remains packed. In addition to Queen 2, she is set to appear in Bharat Bhhagya Viddhaata—a drama centered on the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks—and the psychological thriller Circle alongside R. Madhavan.
