Queen Elizabeth’s Iconic Quip at Harry & Meghan’s Wedding Leaves Internet in Splits

May 31, 2025: As Prince Harry and Meghan Markle marked their 7th wedding anniversary, a behind-the-scenes story from their big day is once again capturing hearts online. Celebrity photographer Alexi Lubomirski, who shot the royal couple’s engagement and wedding photos, shared a humorous anecdote on TikTok that involved none other than Queen Elizabeth II herself.

Lubomirski recounted the tense moments before photographing the newlyweds and their family at St George’s Chapel, Windsor, in May 2018. With global attention on the royal wedding and pressure mounting, he was nervous—especially about photographing the Queen and Prince Philip.

“I asked Prince Harry for advice, and he said, ‘My grandparents have taken so many pictures. It’s not their fun part. If you don’t get it quickly, they’re just going to move out,’” Lubomirski said. But it was the Queen’s dry humor that broke the ice.

As Lubomirski apologized for a slight delay, he said to the Queen, “I’m terribly sorry, Your Majesty, we’re going to be about five minutes.” To that, Queen Elizabeth calmly replied, “It’s not me you need to worry about.” A subtle nod to Prince Philip’s well-known impatience—and a moment that left the photographer both relieved and amused.

Royal insiders and biographers have long described the Queen as a master of understated humor. Ingrid Seward once called her “a master of understatement delivered in her best deadpan voice,” while American photographer Annie Leibovitz had her own run-in with the Queen’s no-nonsense attitude during a 2007 shoot, recalling that the monarch once told her, “I don’t have much time.”

Lubomirski’s story not only highlights the pressure of capturing royal moments but also reminds fans of the Queen’s quick wit and enduring presence, even in high-stakes settings.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding was viewed by nearly two billion people globally and remains one of the most talked-about royal events of the 21st century.
