Rachel Zegler’s Political Comments Blamed for ‘Snow White’ Flop by Producer’s Son

Jonah Platt, son of producer Marc Platt, criticizes lead actress Rachel Zegler’s political outspokenness, calling it ‘immature’ and damaging to the film’s box office.

March 28, 2025: Disney’s highly anticipated Snow White remake has found itself at the centre of controversy—not just on screen but behind the scenes. The $250 million production, starring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, is underperforming at the box office, and now, Jonah Platt—son of producer Marc Platt—has publicly blamed Zegler’s political comments for the film’s struggles.

Jonah’s remarks surfaced on Instagram, where he responded to a user referencing a Variety report that claimed his father had personally confronted Zegler about her statements. Jonah wrote:

“Yeah, my dad, the producer of an enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to fly across the country to reprimand his 20-year-old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract.”

Though he deleted the comment shortly after posting, screenshots went viral across social media.

Zegler’s pro-Palestine comments reportedly fueled tensions with co-star Gal Gadot, an Israeli actress who allegedly received threats online. The fallout led to reduced press appearances and a muted promotional campaign.

Jonah didn’t hold back, continuing in his comment:

“This is called adult responsibility and accountability. Her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office. Free speech doesn’t mean saying whatever you want during private employment without consequences.”

“Tens of thousands of people worked on that film and she hijacked the conversation for her own immature desires… Narcissism is not something to be coddled or encouraged,” he added.

Despite expectations of an opening above $50 million, Snow White brought in just $43 million in its debut weekend and has since seen a steep drop in collections.

The controversy around Zegler’s outspoken political stance—combined with online backlash, industry whispers of on-set feuds, and underwhelming box office numbers—has cast a shadow over what was intended to be a modern fairytale reboot for Disney.
