Radhika Apte Calls Out Film Industry For Being Tough On New Mothers: ‘The Time We Don’t See The Child…’

Radhika Apte Joins Deepika and Saif in Advocating Family Time for Working Parents
June 01, 2025: Following Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan, actor Radhika Apte has become the latest celebrity to emphasize the need for better work-life balance in the Indian film industry, especially for new parents. In a candid conversation with Indian Express, Radhika admitted that the film industry is not particularly supportive of new mothers, leaving her uncertain about how to move forward with her career post-motherhood.

Radhika Admits Struggles of Being a New Mom in a Demanding Industry
When asked if the film industry is conducive for new mothers, Radhika said, “I don’t think they are. I don’t know how I’m going to navigate that going ahead.” She highlighted the demanding nature of film shoots, long working hours, and the lack of time to spend with her child, which makes balancing motherhood and work particularly challenging. Radhika, who has been splitting her time between Mumbai and London, also added that the logistics of traveling make it even more complicated.

Industry Voices Supporting Parenthood Balance
Radhika’s statement comes shortly after Deepika Padukone reportedly turned down director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Spirit’, co-starring Prabhas, due to unmet demands for an 8-hour workday and improved compensation. Her decision was publicly supported by actors like Ajay Devgn, Kajol, and Saif Ali Khan, who also emphasized the need to prioritize family time over relentless work schedules.

Radhika Reflects on Postpartum Emotions and Support System
Radhika shared her emotional experience of becoming a mother. She revealed that she had mentally prepared herself for postpartum depression, ensuring her friends and family were aware and ready to support her. Thankfully, she expressed that her journey was emotionally positive: “To my own surprise, I was just purely elated when I had a child. And fortunately, I didn’t suffer from severe depression at any point.”

Radhika Apte welcomed her baby girl in December 2024, and is married to musician Benedict Taylor.
