Actress Radhika Apte has publicly voiced her strong concern over the escalating use of graphic violence and gore in contemporary Indian films and shows, labeling the trend as “deeply disturbing” and harmful to society.
Concerns Over Disturbing Content
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Apte expressed her distress, particularly noting the impact such content has on the environment for raising children.
“I feel quite disturbed, and I have to say this openly… I am deeply disturbed by the violence at the moment that is selling as entertainment. I don’t want to be bringing up a child in a world where that is entertainment. I just cannot deal with it,” she stated.
Shock Value vs. Storytelling
Apte criticized the film industry for prioritizing shocking visuals over genuine narrative depth:

- Need for Subtlety: According to Apte, to tell a story of violence, one does not need to explicitly show the “chopping and horrible things.”
