Radhika Apte Set To Make Directorial Debut With Action-Fantasy Film 'Koyta'

March 7, 2025: Radhika Apte, the versatile Bollywood actress known for her impressive acting chops, is all set to make her directorial debut with an action-fantasy film titled Koyta (Sickle). According to a report by Variety, the film, which will be produced by acclaimed filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane, marks a significant shift for Apte as she steps behind the camera.

The announcement of Koyta was part of the CineV-CHD Market lineup, which was revealed at the Cinevesture International Film Festival (CIFF). This year's festival lineup included 22 exciting projects from both established and new filmmakers, making it an important platform for emerging talents.

Koyta will be shot in Hindi and Marathi, offering a unique cinematic experience. The film’s storyline follows a young migrant sugarcane cutter who undergoes a forced medical procedure, resulting in the acquisition of superpowers. With her newfound abilities, she sets out on a mission to free her family from the shackles of debt. This gripping narrative is expected to offer an exhilarating mix of action and fantasy, giving Apte the perfect opportunity to showcase her vision as a director.

Apart from her directorial debut, Apte is also gearing up for her upcoming role in the period thriller Akka. Set in the 1980s, Akka is a gripping series about a matriarchal society in the fictional South Indian city of Pernuru. The show will delve into the power struggles within a gangster-run world, focusing on how an outsider threatens the reign of the powerful gangster queens, leading to a bloody battle for survival. Apte will be joined by Keerthy Suresh, with veteran actress Tanvi Azmi also playing a key role.

Akka, which is produced by YRF Entertainment, has already generated a great deal of anticipation after its first look was unveiled during a grand Netflix event in Mumbai in February. Directed by Dharmaraj Shetty, the show promises to captivate viewers with its rich narrative and intense performances.

With Koyta and Akka in her professional pipeline, Radhika Apte’s career continues to evolve as she embraces new and exciting challenges, both in front of and behind the camera.
