Rajinikanth Offers Final Tributes to DMDK Leader Vijayakanth
Actor and DMDK chief Vijayakanth received the last respects from megastar Rajinikanth on Friday. Videos circulating on the internet show Rajinikanth expressing his sympathies to Vijayakanth’s wife Premalatha at the Island Ground, Anna Salai, the location of the late politician and actor’s mortal remains. In a quick media interview, Rajinikanth also mentioned Vijayakanth. “We’ll never find someone as good as Vijayakanth,” he declared. There is no one like him in politics or film. This loss cannot be replaced.”
On Thursday, Vijayakanth, who was 71 years old, passed away in Chennai after testing positive for COVID-19. Several political figures, actors, and others visited the DMDK office where the chief’s mortal remains were previously kept in order to pay their respects. Due to a decline in his health, Vijayakanth was admitted to MIOT Hospital in Chennai earlier in November. He spent 14 days under the care of medical professionals due to coughing and throat pain.
Vijayakanth, popularly known as “Captain,” has had a prosperous career in the Tamil film industry. Prior to entering politics, he appeared in 154 motion pictures. Vijayakanth brought about revolutionary changes in the South Indian film industry while he was employed at Nadigar Sangam, which was formerly known as the South Indian Artists’ Association (SIAA). He also represented the constituencies of Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam as a member of the Legislative Assembly twice.
