Rajinikanth Wanted to Marry Sridevi? A Filmmaker Reveals the Day His Proposal Was Thwarted
An old filmmaker revealed that the superstar planned to confess his feelings at Sridevi’s housewarming party, but a sudden power outage made him rethink his decision, leaving their love story unspoken.
August 6, 2025: For a long time, no one wrote about the quiet, unrequited love story between movie stars Rajinikanth and Sridevi. People knew them from movies like ChaalBaaz. K. Balachander, the filmmaker who gave both of them their big breaks, claims that fate hindered Rajinikanth from telling Sridevi how he felt.
People believe that the occurrence happened at Sridevi’s housewarming celebration. The lights went out just as Rajinikanth was about to tell her how he felt about her. He left because he thought the sudden darkness was a sign. He never talked about it again.
They initially worked together on the movie Moondru Mudichu, which came out in 1976. Sridevi, who was 13 years old at the time, plays his stepmother in the movie. Over time, they became quite close, and this was clear in their personal life as well. When Rajinikanth got really sick years later, some believe that Sridevi prayed and fasted for seven days straight for him to get better.
Sridevi married producer Boney Kapoor in 1997. She died in 2018. In 1981, Rajinikanth and Latha Rajinikanth got married. Their serene love story is a nice reminder of a relationship that lasted beyond the screen and was based on respect and a beautiful, quiet bond.
