Rajkummar Rao Opens Up On Bollywood Pressures, Upcoming Films ‘Bhool Chuk Maaf’ And ‘Maalik’

May 06, 2025 : Acclaimed actor Rajkummar Rao, known for his powerful roles in films like Shahid, Stree, and Kai Po Che!, recently shared candid insights into the challenges young actors face in Bollywood, including intense competition and pressure to prove themselves.

Rao emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with the right energy and mindset. “I think surround yourself with the right people. With the right energy. And then keep working. Focus on your work and nothing else. Nothing else is more important than your work,” he said.

Acknowledging the presence of both “amazing” and “average” individuals in the industry, Rao noted that this is not unique to Bollywood. “Every industry has all kinds of people. There’s no set formula for success. Some people achieve it instantly, others take time. What matters is staying true to who you are.”

Rao also highlighted the need for self-awareness, adding, “You have to know your truth—your strengths, your shortcomings. Only then can you grow and improve.”

Currently, the actor is promoting his upcoming film Bhool Chuk Maaf, which stars Wamiqa Gabbi and is set to release on May 9. Directed by Karan Sharma and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films in association with Amazon MGM Studios, the film centers around a quirky time loop plot. “There’s a wedding, Banaras, families, Wamiqa, and amazing actors—plenty of reasons to say yes,” Rao shared.

Wamiqa Gabbi echoed his excitement, recalling her first reaction to the script. “I was laughing through the entire narration. It was hilarious even on paper. With Rajkummar and the rest of the cast, I knew it would be special.”

Rao also discussed his next project, Maalik, in which he plays a ruthless gangster—his first foray into raw action. Directed by Pulkit and produced by Tips Films and Northern Lights Films, Maalik is now scheduled to hit theatres on July 11, 2025, after a rescheduled release date from June 20.

“It’s unlike anything I’ve done before,” said Rao. “The character is intense, and the action is raw. I hope Bhool Chuk Maaf becomes a milestone in my career.”
