Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi’s 'Bhool Chuk Maaf' Cancels Theatrical Release, Set To Release On OTT On This Date Due To This Reason
May 8, 2025: The much-anticipated film Bhool Chuk Maaf, starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, was initially scheduled to hit theatres on May 9. However, due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan and the increased security measures across the nation, the film’s producers have made the decision to bypass its theatrical release in favor of a direct-to-OTT debut. The film will now premiere on Prime Video on May 16.
In a statement released on Thursday, the makers of Bhool Chuk Maaf explained their decision. “In light of recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation, we at Maddock Films and Amazon MGM Studios have decided to bring our family entertainer, Bhool Chuk Maaf, directly to your homes on May 16 – only on Prime Video, worldwide,” the statement read.
The statement also expressed the disappointment of the filmmakers, who had been eagerly anticipating the film’s theatrical release. “While we were eagerly looking forward to celebrating this film with you in theaters, the spirit of the nation comes first. JAI HIND,” it added.
As a result of the current situation, the press shows that were originally scheduled to take place in Delhi and Mumbai have also been cancelled.
The decision to release the film on OTT comes amidst rising tensions between India and Pakistan following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. The attack, which claimed the lives of 26 people, has led to a diplomatic crisis between the two countries. In response, the Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor, a targeted strike aimed at destroying terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

As the nation deals with the repercussions of these events, Bhool Chuk Maaf will now bring its family-friendly entertainment directly to audiences worldwide on Prime Video, offering a much-needed diversion amidst the ongoing crisis.
