Rajnikanth Casts Vote as Tamil Nadu Kicks Off LS Polls 2024

Tamil Nadu’s electoral machinery roared to life today as the Lok Sabha polls began, with iconic actor Rajnikanth among the early voters. Donning a striking all-white ensemble, the 72-year-old Padma Vibhushan awardee was spotted at Stella Maris College in Chennai, exercising his democratic right during the early hours of Friday.

Voting is currently underway for all 39 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, marking the initiation of the general elections’ initial phase. The extensive seven-phase electoral exercise, commencing at 7 am, spans 102 parliamentary constituencies across 21 states and Union Territories. Electors have until 6 pm today to cast their ballots.

In this crucial electoral battle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks a third consecutive term, facing off against a formidable opposition coalition known as INDIA, aiming to unseat PM Modi from power. Recognizing the gravity of the elections, PM Modi urged citizens nationwide to vote in large numbers, emphasizing the importance of each vote, especially among young and first-time voters.

In the 2019 general elections, the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance secured an impressive victory, claiming 38 out of 39 seats in Tamil Nadu. The ongoing first phase of voting covers constituencies across multiple states, with subsequent phases scheduled on April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1, mirroring the structure of the previous general elections held in 2019.

The electoral climax will unfold on June 4, with the counting of votes determining the nation’s political landscape for the foreseeable future.
