Rajpal Yadav Bail: New Details Emerge

Actor’s counsel links legal dispute to 2012 film event with Amitabh Bachchan

February 20, 2026: After the Delhi High Court granted interim bail to Rajpal Yadav till March 18 to attend his niece’s wedding, fresh details have surfaced about his long-running legal dispute with businessman Madhav Gopal Aggarwal. According to Yadav’s counsel Bhaskar Upadhyay, the case traces back to the 2012 music launch of the film Ata Pata Laapata, where tensions reportedly escalated after the complainant was denied the opportunity to share the stage with Amitabh Bachchan, who had attended the event as a personal favour to Yadav. The defence claims the refusal offended Aggarwal, who had lent Rs 5 crore for the film, prompting him to move court seeking a stay on its release.

Yadav and Aggarwal had initially signed multiple agreements until August 2012, followed by a 2013 consent agreement that reportedly nullified earlier arrangements and fixed dues at Rs 10.40 crore. However, the actor’s counsel alleged that old cheques from a defunct agreement were later revived, resulting in parallel legal proceedings. In 2018, a trial court convicted Yadav and imposed a fine of Rs 11.5 crore, while an execution court sentenced him to three months’ imprisonment for the same cause of action — a situation the defence described as legally untenable.

The defence further claimed that Yadav had offered property worth Rs 15 crore as surety and had already paid around Rs 1.90 crore, but the complainant still sought imprisonment. After walking out of Tihar Jail on interim bail, Yadav thanked supporters on social media and is currently attending family wedding celebrations in Shahjahanpur, where videos of him participating in festivities have gone viral.
