Rajpal Yadav Faces Jail As Cheque Bounce Case Peaks
Actor’s emotional plea before surrender sparks industry-wide support
February 10, 2026: Actor Rajpal Yadav faced an emotional moment as he surrendered at Tihar Jail in connection with a long-running cheque bounce case involving nearly ₹9 crore. Visibly shaken, the actor admitted to severe financial distress, saying he had no money left and no one to turn to. His candid remarks about isolation and helplessness quickly went viral, resonating across social media and highlighting the personal toll of prolonged legal and financial battles.
The case dates back to 2010, when Yadav borrowed ₹5 crore from a Delhi-based firm to fund his directorial debut Ata Pata Laapata. After the film failed, loan repayments stalled and several cheques reportedly bounced, leading to legal action under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Despite multiple appeals and partial repayments, the outstanding amount kept rising. On February 4, 2026, the Delhi High Court rejected his final plea for more time, directing him to surrender, citing repeated delays and lack of seriousness in resolving the matter.
Amid the crisis, actor Sonu Sood stepped in with a strong gesture of solidarity. Announcing that Rajpal Yadav would be part of his upcoming film, Sood said a signing amount would be given as professional support, not charity. Emphasising dignity and unity, he urged the film fraternity to stand by a colleague in distress, reminding the industry that compassion matters as much as success.
