Ram Charan’s Game Changer Struggles at Box Office Amid Controversy and Declining Earnings

With a mere ₹129.34 crore in 16 days and allegations of inflated numbers and tax evasion, Ram Charan’s Game Changer faces an uphill battle to survive Week 3.

January 27, 2025: Despite high expectations and a strong opening, Game Changer, starring Ram Charan and Kiara Advani, is facing significant challenges at the box office. In 16 days, the political drama has earned ₹129.34 crore at the Indian box office, with its global gross collection reaching ₹184.17 crore. However, these figures fall short of the makers’ initial claims of ₹186 crore on its opening day, January 10.

The film, which heavily relied on Telugu and Hindi audiences, has seen a downward trend in earnings. On Day 16, Game Changer earned just ₹0.16 crore in Telugu and ₹0.07 crore in Hindi. Its performance in other languages, such as Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada, has been negligible, with none crossing the ₹1 crore mark. The film’s total gross in its original language, Telugu, stands at ₹87.9 crore, while the Hindi version contributed ₹32.57 crore.

Controversy Overshadows Performance
Adding to its box office woes, Game Changer has been mired in controversy. Allegations of inflated earnings and Income Tax (IT) raids on the properties of producer Dil Raju have cast a shadow over the film’s success. The IT department conducted searches at multiple properties linked to Dil Raju on January 21, following accusations of tax evasion. Bollywood veteran Ram Gopal Varma also criticized the reported earnings, calling them exaggerated and misleading in a series of tweets.

A Promising Start, Now a Struggle
Once touted as a major 2025 release, Game Changer began its run with ₹51 crore on its opening day. However, the film’s momentum slowed considerably in subsequent weeks. On its 16th day, it earned a modest ₹0.24 crore, including ₹0.01 crore from its Tamil version.

What’s Next?
While the film’s global earnings of ₹184.17 crore indicate some success, they are far from the anticipated box office milestones. As the movie enters its third week, its fate hinges on sustained support from Telugu and Hindi-speaking audiences.
