December 9, 2024: Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule has been shattering records at the box office, crossing an astounding ₹500 crore within just three days of its release. As the film continues to dominate, veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma shared his candid thoughts on its success and the rise of Allu Arjun as a pan-India superstar.
Taking to social media, Ram Gopal Varma lauded the film’s achievements, emphasizing how a Telugu-language actor has become Bollywood’s biggest star without speaking Hindi fluently. In his tweet, RGV wrote:
“The BIGGEST HINDI FILM ever in the HISTORY of BOLLYWOOD is a DUBBED TELUGU FILM #Pushpa2. The BIGGEST HINDI FILM ACTOR in the HISTORY of BOLLYWOOD is a TELUGU ACTOR @alluarjun who CAN’T SPEAK HINDI. So it’s not PAN INDIA anymore, but its TELUGU INDIA.”
RGV also praised the film’s director, Sukumar, for crafting such a unique and compelling character in Pushpa. Highlighting Allu Arjun’s nuanced portrayal, he wrote, “It’s extremely rare in Indian cinema to see sharply etched characters like Pushpa or find a star willing to forgo their image to truly embody the role.”
In an extensive note, RGV delved deeper into the character of Pushpa, describing how Allu Arjun’s performance broke stereotypes. “I never believed a deformed character could become a superhero,” he wrote, referencing Pushpa’s physical struggles. He added, “@alluarjun turned that deformity into a strength, creating unforgettable gestures and body language that will remain iconic for decades.”
The filmmaker also commended Arjun’s ability to balance intense emotional moments with subtlety. He mentioned scenes like Pushpa’s ego being bruised by the Chief Minister’s refusal to pose for a photo or his emotional vulnerability after consuming alcohol to apologize. RGV concluded by stating, “After witnessing the depth of Pushpa’s character, even the original @alluarjun falls short in comparison.”
Pushpa 2: The Rule, featuring Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil in key roles, has set a new benchmark for Indian cinema. Its blend of compelling storytelling, powerful performances, and universal appeal has resonated across audiences, further solidifying Allu Arjun’s place as a global star.
As Ram Gopal Varma puts it, this success story transcends traditional Bollywood narratives, making a case for regional cinema’s dominance on the national stage.
