Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor has finally broken his silence on his much-anticipated role as Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s epic film Ramayana. The actor shared his thoughts at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah on December 8, marking his first official comments about the project since it was announced.
In a video from the festival that quickly went viral, Ranbir Kapoor revealed that Ramayana will be released in two parts, with the first installment already wrapped up. Speaking about his involvement, Ranbir said, “Just to be part of that story... I’m so humbled to be essaying Ram’s role. It’s a dream for anyone, especially for me. The film has everything—it teaches what Indian culture is about, good versus evil, family dynamics, and husband-wife dynamics.”
The actor expressed excitement about portraying such a significant character and emphasised how the story of Ramayana encapsulates timeless values and cultural richness.
Ranbir’s comments on Ramayana sparked a flurry of reactions online, ranging from humorous memes to outright criticism. Many users took to Reddit to share their thoughts, with some finding irony in Ranbir’s reflections on “family dynamics and husband-wife dynamics,” given the actor’s personal controversies.
One user commented, “Lol, ‘family dynamics.’ It’s kinda funny to hear Ranbir talk about this like it’s an alien concept.” Another added, “And the PR whitewashing begins. 😂 ‘100 chuhe khake billi Haj ko chali.’”
Others mocked Ranbir’s statement about playing Lord Rama being a “dream role.” A netizen quipped, “When did he even dream about this? Their dream roles seem to change every year.” Referring to his previous comments about other roles, another joked, “From Ranvijay to Ram—now that’s versatility!”
Apart from Ramayana, Ranbir has an exciting lineup of projects. He was last seen in Animal (2023), where he delivered a gritty and intense performance. Alongside Ramayana Parts 1 and 2, he is set to star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War alongside Alia Bhatt and Vicky Kaushal.
Additionally, Ranbir will reprise his dual roles of Ranvijay Singh and Aziz Haque in the upcoming sequel to Animal, titled Animal Park.
As fans eagerly await Ramayana, the film, slated for a Diwali 2026 release, is already shaping up to be a grand cinematic spectacle.
