In honor of the 141st birth anniversary of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, actor Randeep Hooda has announced the streaming of his directorial debut film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ on ZEE5.
Hooda shared this update with his fans, emphasizing the film’s importance in reliving the revolutionary’s story. “On his 141st Birth Anniversary, relive the story of the one who sparked a Revolution against all odds & became the Most Dangerous Revolutionary of India. #SwatantryaVeerSavarkar now streaming, only on ZEE5. #ReliveSavarkarOnZEE5 #VeerSavarkarOnZEE5,” Hooda wrote on X.
‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ features Randeep Hooda in his debut as a director and lead actor. The film also stars Ankita Lokhande as Yamuna Bai, the wife of Savarkar. It presents a cinematic portrayal of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, one of India’s most influential and controversial figures in the Indian Independence struggle. Savarkar, born on May 28, 1883, in Bhagur, is revered for his revolutionary activities and writings that inspired many during the fight for freedom.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to Savarkar on his birth anniversary, acknowledging his significant contributions to India’s independence movement. “Tribute to the great freedom fighter Veer Savarkar ji on his birth anniversary, who dedicated his life in the service of the motherland,” the prime minister posted on X.
Randeep Hooda responded to the Prime Minister’s tribute, urging audiences to watch the film. “On the Birth Anniversary of Most Influential and Visionary Revolutionary of Akhand Bharat #VeerSavarkar, #SwatantryaVeerSavarkar streaming now on @ZEE5India Watch His Story! Naman,” he wrote.
To mark the occasion, Hooda visited the Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, where Savarkar was imprisoned for life. Reflecting on his role, Hooda shared his deep connection to the character. In an interview with ANI, he mentioned, “After studying Savarkar ji’s entire story and trying to live his life and portray it on screen, I became very involved in it. When people who knew Veer Savarkar, like his family and those close to him, such as the Mangeshkar family, gave me a pat on the back saying that I portrayed him very well, truthfully, and powerfully, it felt great because such validation is often very rare.”
Hooda added, “Often, when you make biopics, the close ones of the person say you didn’t include this or show that. But I tried to encapsulate his entire 53-year life in 3 hours. So, it feels like a validation when I receive an award from their side.”
The film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ was released on March 22 in both Hindi and Marathi. It aims to shed light on the life and legacy of Savarkar, providing viewers with an in-depth look at his contributions and struggles. Now streaming on ZEE5, the film is available for audiences to explore and appreciate the story of one of India’s most dynamic freedom fighters.
