Rani Mukerji Not Part of OMG 3 With Akshay Kumar; Makers Begin Search for New Female Lead
National Award-winning actress Rani Mukerji, who was widely rumoured to join Akshay Kumar in the upcoming film OMG 3, is reportedly no longer attached to the project. The development comes as a surprise to fans who were excited about the possibility of seeing the two actors share screen space for the first time.
According to reports, Rani had been approached to play the lead protagonist in the third installment of the Oh My God franchise, while Akshay Kumar was expected to return in an extended cameo role. The initial discussions reportedly generated significant buzz, as the pairing of the two stars was seen as one of the most exciting casting prospects for the film.
However, sources reveal that the discussions remained at a very early stage. While Rani Mukerji had listened to the basic storyline and expressed interest in the project, the talks did not progress further, leading to her eventual exit from the film.
A source quoted in reports stated that Akshay Kumar and Rani Mukerji share a long-standing professional relationship and were genuinely enthusiastic about collaborating. Despite the mutual interest, the conversations never moved beyond the preliminary phase.
With Rani now out of the project, the makers of OMG 3 have reportedly begun searching for another actress to take on the female lead role. The film is expected to go on floors between May and June 2026.
On the work front, Rani Mukerji was last seen in Mardaani 3, which released on January 30, 2026. Despite the strong popularity of the Mardaani franchise, the film received mixed reviews and had a modest start at the box office, earning around ₹4 crore on its opening day.
Produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Abhiraj Minawala, Mardaani 3 marked the third installment in the action franchise following Mardaani (2014) and Mardaani 2 (2019). The film also featured actors Janki Bodiwala, Jisshu Sengupta, Mikhail Yawalkar, Indraneel Bhattacharya, Prajesh Kashyap, and Mallika Prasad, who portrayed the primary antagonist.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that Rani Mukerji may reunite with Shah Rukh Khan in the upcoming film King. However, the collaboration has not yet been officially confirmed. The film is expected to release on December 24, 2026.
