Rani Mukerji's 'Mardaani' Franchise Gears Up for Next Chapter as Film Marks 10 Years
Celebrating a decade of Rani Mukerji’s powerful performance in the ‘Mardaani’ franchise, Yash Raj Films (YRF) has teased the next installment of this much-loved cop series. As the original ‘Mardaani’ film, which was released in 2014, turned 10, YRF took to X (formerly Twitter) to share nostalgic glimpses of both ‘Mardaani’ and its sequel, ‘Mardaani 2’, which was released in 2019.
YRF’s post, which excited fans and hinted at what’s to come, read: “10 years of #Mardaani and the next chapter awaits… Celebrating the feisty, daredevil cop #ShivaniShivajiRoy and the spirit of #Mardaani today. Thank you for a decade of love and appreciation for our beloved franchise. We are inspired… again… thanks to you. #RaniMukerji”
The original ‘Mardaani’, directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Aditya Chopra, introduced audiences to the tough and fearless police officer, Shivani Shivaji Roy, played by Rani Mukerji. The film, which also starred Jisshu Sengupta, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Saanand Verma, was a gripping action thriller that received widespread acclaim.
Five years later, in 2019, ‘Mardaani 2’ continued the legacy with a sequel directed by Gopi Puthran. In both films, Rani Mukerji’s portrayal of the determined and justice-driven cop earned her immense praise, solidifying her role as one of Bollywood’s most compelling female protagonists.
As YRF celebrates the 10th anniversary of this iconic franchise, fans eagerly await more details about the next chapter in the ‘Mardaani’ series, which promises to bring back the same intensity and grit that has made Shivani Shivaji Roy an unforgettable character.
