Ranveer Allahabadia Appears Before Guwahati Crime Branch in ‘India’s Got Latent’ Controversy

March 7, 2025: YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, known for his podcast ‘The Ranveer Show,’ appeared at the Crime Branch office in Guwahati on Friday as part of the ongoing investigation into the controversial ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. The show, which garnered significant public backlash, has come under legal scrutiny due to explicit and inappropriate content shared by its participants.

The controversy erupted when an FIR was filed by the Guwahati Police on February 10, accusing several prominent influencers, including Ranveer Allahabadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, Apoorva Makhija, and Samay Raina, of promoting obscenity. The charges were based on their involvement in the show, which featured vulgar discussions that many found offensive. The FIR referenced various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, and the Cinematograph Act.

Following the filing of the FIR, the influencers, including Ashish Chanchlani, appeared before the Crime Branch on February 27, where their statements were recorded. This led to the registration of a case under Cyber PS case no. 03/2025, with charges related to the indecent representation of women and obscene conduct.

On March 6, the investigation took another turn as the influencers, including Ranveer Allahabadia, Ashish Chanchlani, Apoorva Makhija, and the show’s producers, attended a hearing at the National Commission for Women (NCW) in Delhi. They provided statements regarding the controversial remarks made during the show. The viral incident from the show sparked widespread outrage on social media, with calls for stricter regulation of online content, particularly regarding the treatment of women and decency in media.

Amidst the legal developments, Ashish Chanchlani shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking his fans for their overwhelming support during this difficult time. “I know, maine aapke messages padhe hain, chal raha hai. Maine socha story pe aapse baat kar lun, lekin ab samajh nahi aa raha kya kahun. Lad lenge situation se, dekhe hain aise tough times, isse bhi kuch naya seekh lenge,” he said in the video, expressing his resolve to overcome the situation.

Ranveer Allahabadia, who had made a highly criticized comment during the show, took to social media to issue a public apology. In a video posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Allahabadia admitted that his comment was not just inappropriate but also not funny. “Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry,” Allahabadia stated. He further expressed his commitment to using his platform responsibly, especially considering his influence over younger audiences. “Family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect,” he added.

In a related development, the Supreme Court granted Allahabadia permission to resume his podcast, ‘The Ranveer Show,’ with conditions regarding decency and moral responsibility, ensuring that his content adheres to community standards.

The legal battle surrounding the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show is still ongoing, and the public response to the situation continues to be divided. While some support the influencers’ right to free expression, others are calling for greater accountability in online content creation. The outcome of the investigation and the legal proceedings will likely have a significant impact on how such shows and influencers are regulated in the future.
