The Bollywood actor’s public support for Chiranjeevi Hanuman has put him at odds with filmmakers who argue the technology threatens human artists.
August 20, 2025: There is a lot of disagreement in the Hindi film business about a new AI-made movie named Chiranjeevi Hanuman. The idea came from actor Ranveer Singh, but famous directors like Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane are against it.
The problems began when Abundantia Entertainment said that it was developing on an avatar that was “first-of-its-kind,” “Made-In-AI,” and “Made-In-India.”
Ranveer Singh promptly replied to the production house’s tweet with “Wah (claps emoticon),” showing that he was behind the initiative. The actor’s quick answer has started a big conversation about how AI would change movies.
But filmmakers have not held back their criticism. Anurag Kashyap, a close friend of the project’s producer, Vijay Subramaniam, who also operates a talent agency, wrote a series of angry remarks on social media against the project.
Kashyap responded, “Go ahead and use AI if you want.” “My actual problem is with my friend Vijay Subramaniam… He speaks for the artists and is their voice. He is also working on an AI movie. Vijay Subramaniam should not do that at all. Kashyap also told the creative community that any actor or creator with a “spine” should question the move or leave the agency.
Vikramaditya Motwane, a filmmaker, agreed with him and remarked, “And so it begins… Who the hell needs writers and directors when it’s ‘Made in AI’?”
Vijay Subramaniam, the producer, has defended the project by saying in a press release that his goal is to “reimagine cultural storytelling for an audience that loves both tradition and innovation.” He added he will be “completely open about how AI fits into the creative process.”
The dispute over Chiranjeevi Hanuman, which will come out on Hanuman Jayanti 2026, illustrates that the business is scared about AI in general. There was a lot of talk recently about an AI-changed ending to the movie Raanjhanaa, which artists also didn’t like. This shows that the gap between technical progress and artistic integrity is getting greater.
