Actor expresses regret after imitation of ritual scene triggers outrage

While praising the film and Shetty’s performance, Ranveer imitated a ritualistic sequence, which upset some followers of the Daiva tradition. Shetty, who was present at the event, was seen attempting to stop him during the act.
The incident quickly drew backlash on social media, with critics calling the act insensitive to cultural and religious sentiments. Responding to the outrage, Ranveer issued a public apology on Instagram, clarifying that his intention was to appreciate Shetty’s performance. He emphasised his respect for all cultures and traditions and expressed regret if his actions caused any hurt.
Despite the apology, legal trouble followed as an FIR was filed against the actor. Ranveer has since challenged the case in the Karnataka High Court. The controversy has reignited debates around cultural sensitivity and artistic expression in public performances.
